While making wine is our passion at Harbinger, we cannot alone survive on the grape. There is an ancient winemaker’s quote that goes something like this, “It takes a lot of great beer to make fine wine.” If you are at all confused by this quote, just amble into a winery or vineyard on a late evening in the middle of harvest and you will see the light….or dark!
Tom Curry is our Brewmaster, and like many native Californians Tom struggled with the all the rain in the northwest until he figured out what to do with it: start fermenting it! And so Barhop Brewing was born. On brew days, you can hear Tom brewing to the tunes of Pearl Jam, Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, Led Zepplin, and so on. Tom’s California beer-drinking youth provided him with a strong affinity for the pioneers of micro-brewing, back when Sierra Nevada, Pete’s Wicked, and Mendocino Brewing were small craft brewers. Decades of drinking beer – and specifically micro-brews – have contributed to Tom’s brewing pedigree. (Or so he says.) Currently he is a big fan of Elysian and Russian River Brewing, and these companies have influenced his brewing style which he calls “aggressive California-style ales, with a Northwest twist, using fresh Northwest ingredients”.

FnA/IPA India Pale Ale
5.96 ABV
120 IBU
FnA IPA is our flagship ale. It is a bold, highly hopped India Pale Ale. The grain bill of light caramel crystal, carapils, and Munich malts creates the foundation of a crisp and clean ale. The hop profile is bold and complex, using Chinook, Centennial and Amarillo hop varietals which are infused in multiple stages over the course of the boil. Our hopping process creates an assertive “hop head” IPA with a slight citrus undertone and aroma. FnA IPA is dry-hopped in secondary fermentation.
“FnA this is great IPA”, will roll off your lips after the first sip!
Predecessor ESB
5.15 ABV
58 IBU
Predecessor ESB is a traditional English style “Extra Special Bitter”. Predecessor ESB has a malty base leaning heavily on Caramel-Crystal Malts and a crisp hop profile of Willamette and Tettnanger hops. Predecessor goes through two stage fermentation, where the malt and hops blend into a smooth easy English Pub style brew.
Predecessor ESB, named after that first spouse who is still “Extra Special Bitter”.
Ridge Runner Pale Ale
6.82 ABV
63.8 IBU
Ridge Runner Pale Ale is a strong, yet balanced, American Pale Ale with a soft, velvety mouth, and slight citrus undertones. Ridge Runner Pale Ale has a unique malt bill including Caramel-Crystal, and Special B Malts. The Hop profile of Ridge Runner includes Centennial, Cascade and Warrior hops. Ridge Runner is dry hopped in secondary fermentation.
Ridge Runner, a tribute to the adventurous back country runners on the Olympic Peninsula.
Judge Porter
6.1 ABV
97.5 IBU
Our Porter is a Robust Porter brewed in the English Porter tradition. It has a heavy malt bill including chocolate, honey and black malt. We use a three hop profile of Nugget, Willamette and Tettnanger hops, pushing our Porter beyond the bitterness parameters of traditional Porters. Our Porter is a “hop head” porter. Judge for yourself!
Summer Porter
6.1 ABV
87 IBU
Our Summer Porter is just a lighter version of our standard Porter. It is also brewed in the English Porter tradition using a similar malt bill including chocolate, honey and black malt in a limited quantity. We use the same three hop profile of Nugget, Willamette and Tettnanger hops, but also in a lesser quantity. Our Summer Porter is a light, crisp British style brown ale.
PA 5
4.9 ABV
45 IBU
PA 5 (Port Angeles 5) is a crisp, easy drinking American Pale Ale. The malt bill is light yet complex, creating a solid base for a medium hop profile ale. We hop PA 5 with Centennial, Cascade and Amarillo hops. Our PA 5 is an easy summer drinker, good for one of the “many” hot, sunny summer days in Port Angeles.
All of our Ales are made with fresh Olympic Mountain water, whole Pacific Northwest hops and yeast, and go through two-stage fermentation.
